Compact rescue winch for a cable car system
A rescue winch BGW1500 was installed at one of the towers of the Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. The cable car, which starts at sea level, overcomes a height difference of 885 m.
It has a security system to evacuate passengers from the individual cabins in case of emergency. During the evacuation rescue personnel is lowered with the winch along the track rope to the affected cabins to make the evacuation from there.
The simple, compact and safe BGW1500 promises absolute reliability – thanks to a glow plug system the winch can also be started without any problems at very low temperatures. The winch needs to perform precisely in the case of incidents of the gondola system.
The winch is powered by a 37 kW diesel-hydraulic power-unit and has a line pull of 15 kN. It was designed for a 10 mm steel cable with a length of 500 m and reaches a line speed of 1.5 m / s. The braking system is redundant – it has a multiple-disc brake (motor side) and a band brake (drum side).
